Question: What is art therapy?
Answer: Art therapy involves the use of creative techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, coloring, or sculpting to help people express themselves artistically and examine the psychological and emotional undertones in their art. With the guidance of a credentialed art therapist, clients can "decode" the nonverbal messages, symbols, and metaphors often found in these art forms, which should lead to a better understanding of their feelings and behavior so they can move on to resolve deeper issues (PsychologyToday.com).

No art experience is needed! I'll be there to guide you with materials, techniques and your goals. It is recommended to come with an open mind, willingness to try, and a little bit of curiousity.
APPROACH

My therapeutic style brings compassion, encouragement, and collaboration to the working relationship. I aim to support people in identifying and implementing their goals while respecting the intersectionality of identities and acknowledging the social systems we operate in.
I utilize a trauma-informed approach that includes fostering safety, transparency, empowerment and choice. I am aligned with the Health at Every Size (HAES) © approach which emphasizes having respect for and empowering persons in bodies of all sizes. When incorporating arts and the creative process into therapy, I seek to provide non-verbal opportunities to cultivate emotional expression, connection, and insight.
The models I most typically use in treatment include:
-
Expressive Therapies Continuum (ETC)
-
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
-
Narrative therapy
-
Feminist therapy
-
Adlerian therapy
